Thunder Bay Slovak Community

Thunder-BaySlovaks have moved to Thunder Bay (originally Fort William) already 124 years ago. Even today, more that two and a half thousand of the residents claim Slovak heritage.

Popular events
In the summer the Slovak community gets together at a picnic, in December they have Santa’s Christmas party, and other informal get-togethers take place at the Royal Canadian Legion throughout the year.

Churches
St. Peter‘s Catholic Church on 700 McIntosh Street was built in 1908, thus making it the oldest Slovak Church in Canada. Although there is no longer a Slovak priest in the Parish, its heritage as, established by the Slovaks‘ remains. You can check their website at www.stpeterstbay.com
