The Best Slovak Day Ever

Slovak_day_200_This year's event was the best-ever Slovak Day. The 1st District Assembly did a very great job. Despite the oppressive heat, Slovaks came from near and far to enjoy delicious Slovak food, cold Zlaty Bazant beer and a very entertaining cultural program. We were especially impressed by the number of young Slovaks who brought their friends to experience a Slovak-style picnic.

Good causes took advantage of the large attendance. Margaret Dvorsky was selling Slovak-made goods and toys to raise money for the Slovak Museum in Oshawa. Mary Biason was reminding everyone to nominate students for the Slovak World Congress scholarships.

Sylvia's Bakery  from Burlington, Ontario had one of the most popular stops at the Slovak Day picnic.  They made langoše.  The lineups were long this Slovak delicacy, which you do not get at Starbucks or McDonalds.

Food for the soul as well as the body is also featured at the Slovak Day. The Mass that starts the picnic gets more worshippers than can fit in the outdoor hall.
