Welland celebrated successful year

Year-end activities always bring together Slovaks in Welland.

CSL Branch 23 in Welland celebrated their 76th annual banquet in October. A good crowd came out for a wonderful evening of good food, great entertainment and dancing. We were served a delicious buffet meal of roast beef, chicken, kolbasa and cabbage rolls, and after, had the pleasure of watching the Vychodna Dancers of Toronto. For the remainder of the evening, everyone listened and danced to the music of Miro Letko, along with his band members, Joe and Elizabeth. Once again, a good time was had by all.

In December, Branch 23 organized their annual Christmas get together. 134 branch members attended to share friendship, good wishes and a delicious meal.

Scholarship awards were presented to Kyle Vyrostko from the Canadian Slovak League Head Office, 1st District Assembly, and from Br 23. Christopher Sorley, who was unable to attend our event, received a scholarship from CSL Head Office. Last year, Christopher had received awards from 1st District and from Br 23. Both of these young men have worked very hard to achieve this recognition. We congratulated them both for their hard work and their outstanding achievements and wished them well in their future endeavors.

Santa visited with the children and he was enjoyed by all. Thank to everyone for coming out and making our day a special one.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas, and all the best for the coming year.
