Roman Pomajbo portrayed fatherhood perfectly
Canadian tour of a well known Slovak actor Roman Pomajbo visited Edmonton and Calgary where he entertained audiences with an excellent comedy The Dad (Ocko), by an Icelandic author Bjarni Thorsson.
In this unique one-man show Pomajbo plays a full range of characters, from himself as a faithful husband, lover and upcoming father, of course his wife, but also his mother in law, gynecologist, various friends, as well as a full spectrum of strangers whom he met during the course of life events from the wedding, through pregnancy, to the birth of their eagerly anticipated baby. Roman Pomajbo is a superb actor who could make everyone in the audience understand the purpose of fatherhood, with such humor and convincion that during the whole performance there was never a minute without everyone honestly laughing their hearts out.
One man show is a very difficult theatrical form, yet with the audiovisual equipment and use of camera on actor's i-pad he made even the audience a part of the performance. Since Pomajbo personally welcomed everyone as they entered the theatre with a handshake and a small talk, he became everyone's old friend right from the start of the performance. After the performance everyone received a Certificate of completing a Course on Fatherhood and demonstrating the ability to be a good father.
After the performance, mainly younger members of the audience invited Roman to a pleasant pub accross the street, where we had a chance to get to know him better as a person and hear his fantastic life stories.
Many thanks for the excellent performance and great atmosphere. We hope to see Roman Pomejbo and other Slovak actors and artists again in Western Canada. We also thank the Slovak Embassy in Ottawa, Slovak School in Calgary, and the company Corinex who sponsored this Canadian tour.
