Kitchener-Waterloo Slovak Organizations
Slovaks are organized since 1942 in Branch 34 of the Canadian Slovak League. Members of Branch 34 were very active during its 80 years old history. Locally they represented and were quite a vibrant community within the multicultural fabric. They had a Slovak radio program in the 60s, commemorative events, picnics – especially volunteered at the annual Slovak Day in Southwestern Ontario, months long displays to make fellow Canadians aware of who we are, of our history and contribution to the Canadian society.
In co-operation with churches, we offered classes in Slovak language and St. Nicholas parties for children, organized banquets, dances. We participated in Slovak family days, pilgrimages and many other events not only local, but also supported Slovak events of other branches, and other Slovak organizations in all corners of Ontario.
At present, our activities are the annual Slovak summer picnic, Anniversary dinner, and participation in other events of significance for our Slovak community. We welcome and invite all Slovaks and their descendants to join.
