Jewells at the Slovak Embassy
What an exciting and enjoyable evening it was on Friday April 11 when visual artist Ed Ambrose and jewellery designer Andrea Kalpaska exhibited their sensational works of art at the Slovak Embassy in Ottawa. At the reception, Ambassador Milan Kollar and his wife Sona greeted numerous members of the Slovak community, as well as other designers, artists, models and aficionados who came to appreciate the talents of both artists.
Ed Ambrose studied Fine Arts in Bratislava and immigrated to Canada in 1968. He subsequently taught art in Ottawa at the secondary and university levels. His works reflect his interest in themes of space and science fiction, working also in decorative art. The artist's paintings have been sold in Canada and the United States and are now on display at Koyman Galleries.
Andrea Kolpaska had dreamed of becoming a jewellery designer since she was a child. She pursued her studies at The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and then emigrated to Canada in 1999. She was inspired by her adopted country's beauty to create jewellery that reflected this natural magnificence. Andrea designs and crafts each piece, selecting quality materials to create only the finest quality of jewellery, sometimes designed especially for the person in mind. Her works can be purchased at fine fashion establishments.
The photos taken by Tibor Dej reflect how the evening was filled with glitter and glamour as well as a sense of pride for the creativity of our Slovak artists.
