St. Catharines Honours Scholarship Winners

exec 200Members of three Branch 31 families were recipients of CSL Head Office Scholarships. At the Br. 31 Svaty Mikulas celebration in December, Emily Bohunicky, president of the 1st District of the CSL presented the cheques to the hardworking young scholars.

Kaleb Mudrik received a first place scholarship of $1000.00. Currently attending grade 12 at Jean Vanier in Niagara Falls, Kaleb receives all his instruction in French, making him fluent in both of Canada's official languages. He hopes to pursue studies in engineering at the University of Waterloo in the fall.

Alicia Woodhouse received a second place scholarship of $250.00. Alicia is currently a student at A.N. Myer Secondary School in Niagara Falls and is planning a career in medicine. She will begin her studies at Brock University next fall. Alicia will also be representing Branch 31 as Slovak Day Princess and Folk Arts Ambassador for the year 2014.

Madelen Mudrik received a fourth place scholarship of $150.00. Madelen attends Holy Cross High School in St. Catharines where she maintains an honours average and like her cousin Kaleb intends to study engineering, hopefully at the University of Guelph.

Each of the three scholars also received $150.00 scholarships from the First District of the CSL. All the members of Branch 31 wish the three young scholars well in their studies and in all their future endeavours. "We are very proud of our young scholars – they are excellent models for all our junior members. It takes a lot of dedication and pride in workmanship to be honor roll students and we hope they all achieve the goals that they have set for themselves," commented Branch 31 president and proud father David Woodhouse.

And many young children that greeted Svaty Mikulas will ensure that there will be many future scholarship winners from St. Catharines.

At the meeting members also elected the new Executive of Branch 31 of the Canadian Slovak League.
