Slovaks in Welland and area are proud to have their “own” Member of the Ontario legislature, Canadian-born Peter Kormos, who grew up in the Slovak community in Welland, was an altar boy in the Slovak Church, and many non-Slovaks keep electing him since 1988. He is now one of the most influential and well-known politician in Ontario, yet he always finds time to attend Slovak events.
