Slovak flag is flying in front of Calgary City Hall on New Year's Day 2015, as it had already for 22 New Years in a row, over the city whose motto is "The Heart of The New West", to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of declaration of independence of the Slovak Republic.
A handful of enthusiasts from Branch 65 of the Canadian Slovak League, led by Palo Beňovský, obtain the necessary permits and while the residents of Calgary were waking up after New Year's Eve celebrations, in front of their City Hall flies since sunrise until evening a pretty Slovak flag wishing them Happy New Year from the Heart of Europe.
