Canadian Slovaks celebrate one more tradition between the Mother's day and Father's day: Children's day - Deň detí, usually the first weekend in June. Thus, wherever there is a Slovak community, there is one more celebration where the children are Kings and Queens.
In Ottawa, for the children, undoubtedly the most interesting activity was the toysharing. Parents whose children have no more need of toys give them away at this annual day.
For the elders, the most interesting was the delicious food that had been contributed to the day.
Teenagers Elizabeth Belanska; Hana Koziakova; Barbora Belanska, and Katarina Patzer take a deserved rest in the sun between helping the young children play games.
Simple games like balancing a ball on a racquet while walking a course were among the interesting games for Children.
For the children interested in mental rather than physical games, there were artworks instructions on drawing, painting and building things.
Boys tended to like making sure they not only throw a ball, they knock down something with it.
And everybody had fun, fun, fun.
